Our team are specially trained in biomechanical assessments
and orthotic prescription.
Biomechanical
problems i.e. poor lower limb alignment, poor walking/running
and structural changes of the lower limbs can lead to recurrent
lower limb injuries and back pain. Early assessment and intervention
can prevent injuries.
Biomechanical
assessment addresses lower limb length and alignment, spinal
alignment, muscle flexibility and strength, both statically
and dynamically as well a localised foot assessment.
What are orthotics?
They are specialised foot insoles, specifically made
for your own individual needs to alleviate your back, lower
limb and foot related aches and pains.
They range from Prescription orthotics (medical insoles that
are custom made to correct your specific foot imbalance) to
Sport Orthotics that offer full support and higher shock absorbency.
Sporthotics are available primarily for sport.
They are of particular benefit both for relieving foot
related injuries, low back pain and also prevention of over
use injuries such as shin splints, Achilles tendonitis etc.
They correct lower limb alignment, spinal alignment, mobility
and stability.

Pilates
& Core Stability
What
is Core Stability?
The
pelvis, shoulder girdle and back provide a solid base
or core allowing effective co-ordinated powerful muscle
action in the arm and legs to occur. Training of core
stability muscles develops this solid base.
|
|
The
pelvic girdle functions using your deep abdominal and gluteal
(buttock) muscles to maintain a good position of the pelvis
relative to the spine. Weakness of these muscles with resulting
loss of core stabilisers predisposes the individual to injuries
especially in the lower back. Inactivity/sedentary lifestyle/previous
back injury causes weakness of the core stability.
Poor
scapular stability with associated poor shoulder positioning
predisposes the individual to neck, upper back and shoulder
injuries.
We
include individual core stability rehabilitation as part of
physiotherapy treament. We also host a number of classes for
starter and intermediate levels.

Acupuncture:
Acupuncture
is a non-invasive treatment which gives relief to a
wide range of health problems. Acupuncture has been
used through Chinese Medicine as far back as 4,000 years
ago. It is used to treat the person as a whole. The
life force or vital energy known as Qi or Chi, flows
in pathways throughout the body called meridians. It
is upon the surface meridians that the acupuncture points
are located.
|
Single
use, extremely fine, sterile, disposable needles are used
to activate acupuncture points on the body. Acupuncture causes
a release of the body's natural painkillers, endorphins. Research
shows that these are beneficial to the body's immune and endocrine
systems.
Acupuncture
is used in the treatment of :
- Insomnia
- Menstrual
problems
- Musculoskeletal
problems
- Fibromyalgia
- Poor
immunity with recurrent infections
- Smoking
- Menopausal
symptoms
- Anxiety
and many
more health problems
